A healthy church is a praying church.

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

 

What we see in our text now, is that they were a praying church. You see they had a promise. Jesus had said; ‘ask anything in my name and I'll give it that the Father may be glorified’. And the praying here is not individual prayer. It's corporate. He's talking about the prayer of the church family. We are to be praying together whether it's in corporate worship that has certain limitations or whether it's in your home cells or other small group ministries or whatever. We believe in prayer. We've seen God answer prayer haven't we? We've seen God bring what we believed Him for to the very hour when we believed Him for it. We ought to recommit ourselves right here to prayer because prayer is our recognition of our total dependence upon God.

The church in Jerusalem was a praying church. And we need to affirm the need for prayer here at Logos. You can always get a crowd for a Christian rock concert or the Rugby match as we saw last Saturday but it's tough to get them together to pray. AC Dixon, whoever he was said: “When we depend on organizations, we get what organizations can do; when we depend on education, we get what education can do; when we depend upon man, we get what man can do; but when we depend upon prayer; we get what God can do”.
